Charity Care-The New Jersey Hospital Care Payment Assistance Program, via the New Jersey Department of Health.
Charity Care provides help paying hospital (inpatient and outpatient) bills, and it's available at all acute care hospitals in New Jersey. Patients should apply directly at the hospital where the service is provided. Assistance is generally available to people who have no health coverage or coverage that only pays part of the bill, are ineligible for coverage another way (like private insurance or NJ FamilyCare) and meet specific income and assets criteria.

After receiving emergency care services, inform the hospital staff that you wish to apply for the program. Hospital staff may take your application on-site or direct you to your County Board of Social Services. If you are directed to your County Board of Social Services, contact them as soon as possible to apply. Make sure to have all bills related to the emergency medical condition available to provide to the County Board of Social Services.
